MediaTek, Qualcomm Jointly Amend Former Agreements
September 27, 2013

MediaTek and Qualcomm confirmed that the two parties have agreed to amend and suspend parts of their agreements, entered into in 2009, regarding the exchange of intellectual property on CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) and WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) technology, according to MediaTek's statement on September 25. The original agreements stipulate that MediaTek has to report to Qualcomm information about its customer portfolio, chipset shipment volume, and average selling price in exchange for the right to use the latter's 3G technology free of charge. According to the statement, the amended agreements do not prohibit either Qualcomm or MediaTek from selling chipsets to any customer. However, specific items of the amendments were not disclosed due to confidentiality.
